Grammar and Composition :

    (a) Basic language skills : grammar and usage
The ability to fill in blanks, correct errors, choose correct forms out of alternative choices, join clauses, sentences as directed, replace indicated sections with single world / opposites / synonyms etc.
To be assessed by objective / multiple-choice tests : 1 x 20 = 20% credit

    (b) Comprehension of an unseen passage
This should imply not only (a) an understanding of the passage in question but also (b) a grasp of general language skills and issues with reference to world and usage within the passage and (c) the power of short independent composition based on themes and issues raised in the passage.

    (c) Composition : Paragraph-writing

    (d) Precise / summary writing
There should be formal training in composition and precise / summary writing through instruction, discussion and written work. The students should not be left to conduct these exercises on the strength of their general reading and understanding of the language.

    There shall be a Bridge course for student  Stream ‘B’ BRIDGE COURSE FOR F.Y.B.A/ B.COM.

 I.             Introduction to the spelling and meaning words denoting object \s which they see in ordinary 
               life. eg animals, birds, vehicles, places, persons.
II.            Singular & plural nouns.

III.           Spellings and meaning of action verbs.
IV.           Demonstrative pronouns and their plurals.

V.            Personal pronouns and their plural.
VI.           Simple sentences constructed with ‘to be’

VII.          Interrogative and negative sentences (with ‘to be’)
VIII.        Sentences with active verbs.

IX.           Interrogatives and negative sentences with active verbs.
X.            Common prepositions-Time, place.

XI.           Sentence with ‘Wh’ question words.

*              Intensive exercises may be prepared in advance and given to students as assignment.
*              Cyclostyled sheets continuing brief summary of what was though along with exercises may be          distributed among them.

 

  1. There will be separate prescribed text for the two stream (A & B) keeping in mind the students’     competence in English. The question on text will carry 25 marks. (General quiestion-10 marks shorts questions marks ).

  2. Some lesions may be recommended for loud reading in the tutorials. Stream ‘A’Stream ‘B’

2.             A list of text-based vocabulary should also be prepared if necessary. The students are  required to                 know the morning of these words. Their knowledge of these words may be  tested by matching type 
                questions. List will be circulated hereafter,

           reserved for it.
