Principles & theories of human development HSHD(103) 

Objectives :

1) To aware the students about principles of human development. 2) To aware the students about different theories of human development. 

 

Course Content :

Unit-I 

  1. Meaning of human development, principles of human development, study & it’s historical overview; research method, theoretical perspectives. 

  2. Foundation of development – Biological, prenatal devt. & Birth. Development of Infancy & toddler hood (physical, motor & intellectual) Milestones of an Infancy & toddler hood. 

Unit-II 

  1. Development in childhood ( age group 3 to 6 & 6 to 12) (Physical, motor, intellectual, language, emotional, social, play & personality development.) Milestone in every development of early & late childhood. 

  2. Development in Adolescence. (Physical development in adolescence). Health concerns of Adolescence Maturation of adolescence. Intellectual, emotional, social, personality development during Adolescence. 

Unit-III 

  1. Adulthood & Death 
    (Physical, Intellectual & Emotional) & social & personality during adulthood, scientific aging theory & death. 

  2. Introduction to the field of theory, need for a theory, characteristics of theory & overview of theories of development. 

Unit-IV 

  1. Piaget’s Theory – cognitive theory – stages of theory, key concepts, characteristics of thoughts at various stages – Neopiagetion research, cross cultural research. Meta cognition & cognitive developmental inquiry. Information processing theory. 

  2. Vygotsky’s cultural, historical theories – key concepts. Levin’s field theory. 

Unit-V 

  1. S.R. Social learning & social cognition theory – Key concept. Psychoanalytic theories of psychosexual development (theories of Sigmond Freud). 

  2. Towards & Integrated theories of developments. 

Practical :
To observe developmental tasks of human life through visit and interviews.
