Qualitative Test of Equipment & Ergonomics (H.S.F.R.M. 201)

Objectives :

To help learner to develop an evaluation standard for household equipment. To appreciate role of research in improving existing equipment market demand and supply. 
To help, learner use concept of ergonomics to design house hold equipment. 

Course Outline :
Unit-I 
Development of design, performance and safety standards: - Ergonomics considerations for equipment and product design. The system approach to safe and healthful work place design. Allocation of function between men and machine limitations of men-machine comparisons & behavior in men-machine system. (20%) 
Unit-II 
Industrial Ergonomics Ergonomic factors in occupational health. Production and quality enhancement. Management interest and union support. (25%) 
Unit-III 
Environmental Factors and Ergonomics: - Illumination, noise, vibration and atmospheric conditions and it’s effect on work. Recommendation for standard levels of environmental factors. (25%) 
Unit-IV 
Performance testing in laboratory for commonly used household equipment and comparison of various brands. (15%) 
Unit-V 

  1. Research methods & techniques to study household equipment Organizations undertaking research such as commercial educational, public and private. 

  2. Research gap and action plan needed for household equipment. 

Practical List :

  1. Identification of health hazards in work place. (Office, Classroom, Home, Factory and Labor force work) 

  2. Evaluation of environment in work place and measuring heat, noise, dust etc. 

  3. Analyzing postures at work place. 

  4. Measuring elimination available at work place and studying it’s effect on work efficiency and development of fatigue. 

  5. Performance, comparison of available equipments in Laboratory and design evaluation. 

  6. Comparing various brand of equipments available and studying energy cost. 

  7. Visit to NIOH/NID/ and other design institute to get idea about. 

  8. Preparing a scrape work of various designs of tools & equipments promoting good health.
