2HU05 Computer –I

Objective:

To make the students aware of basics of computer, programming and its applications in construction industry.

 

Course Contents:

1. Computer technology:

· Introduction to Computers.

· Areas of application.

· Related concepts of computing, data and information.

· How the computer processes.

· Advantages of computer.

· Disadvantage/Limitations of computers.

2. Working With Windows Operating System:

· Working with desktop.

· Creating folder.

· Creating shortcuts.

· Creating text files with notepad.

· Finding the files.

· Renaming and deleting the file or folder.

· Workings with recycle bin.

· Setting desktop wallpaper.

· Setting screen savers.

3. Working Basic with Microsoft Work 97/2000:

· Starting Word.

· Creating document.

· Cutting, copying and pasting text.

· Modifying font.

· Aligning text.

· Indenting paragraphs and modifying line spacing.

· Setting and modifying tabs.

· Inserting numbers and bullets in the word document.

· Inserting header and footer in the document.

· Creating page breaks.

· Using auto correct.

· Setting auto text.

· Spelling check and grammar tool.

· Find text.

· Splitting window.

· Working with columns.

· Saving and protecting the document.

· Creating table.

· Creating owns menu and tool bar.

· Creating macros and assigning its shortcuts to keyboard and toolbar.

· Printing documents.

4. Spread Sheet Basic with Microsoft Excl 97/2000:

· What is workbook, worksheets, cells, active cells, cell address etc in Excel?

· Creating a new workbook.

· Entering text, number and other data.

· Formatting the text.

· Selecting multiple cells.

· Writing and editing formulae simple and complex both

· Copy the formula in different cells.

· Relative reference and absolute reference.

· Creating a range.

· Using a range.

· Using Excel Functions.

· Formatting text and conditional formatting.

· Changing row height and columns width.

· Inserting and deleting rows and columns and worksheets

· Transferring data between worksheets and workbooks

· Creating charts, macros.

    2. Office 2000 any of the book containing information regarding Word, Excel and Power Point.

 

Evaluation:

    Assignment Word, Excel & Power Point 60%

    Final Exam, Jury/Viva 40%
